  • Method: Blending
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh spinach, packed
  • 1/2 cucumber, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 ripe banana, sliced
  • 1/2 green apple, cored and chopped
  • 1/2 inch fresh ginger, peeled
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1 cup coconut water (or plain water)
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add the spinach and coconut water to the blender first and blend until smooth to break down the leaves.
  2. Add the cucumber, pineapple, banana, green apple, ginger, and lemon juice.
  3. Blend on high speed for 45-60 seconds until completely smooth and creamy.
  4. Add the ice cubes and blend again for 15-20 seconds until frosty.
  5. Stir in chia seeds if using, or blend briefly to combine.
  6. Pour into two tall glasses and serve immediately.

Notes

Use frozen pineapple and banana for a thicker, colder smoothie without needing extra ice. Swap coconut water for almond milk if you prefer a creamier texture. Best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers keep in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours; shake well before drinking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this a green detox smoothie?

This green detox smoothie gets its color and nutrients from spinach and cucumber, which are naturally hydrating and rich in vitamins, while pineapple and ginger add antioxidants and a touch of natural sweetness.

Can I make this green detox smoothie ahead of time?

Yes, you can blend it the night before and store it in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Give it a good shake or quick re-blend before drinking since separation is natural.

How can I make my green detox smoothie thicker?

Use frozen banana and pineapple instead of fresh, and reduce the liquid slightly. Adding chia seeds or a spoonful of Greek yogurt also thickens the texture nicely.

Is this smoothie good for weight loss?

This green detox smoothie is low in calories and high in fiber from the greens, fruit, and chia seeds, which can help keep you full longer, but it should be paired with a balanced diet for best results.
