Meet Dorothy Miller, Home Cook
Everyday dinners | Easy desserts | Weekend bakes
About Me
I’m Dorothy Miller, a home cook and the person who writes the recipes on Receipster. I’m not a chef. I cook the way most people do: on a weeknight, with whatever is in the fridge and the pantry, and with a fair amount of trial and error along the way.
What I Write About
- Dinners: chicken dinners, pasta, and crock pot soups and stews
- Desserts: pies, bars, and cheesecakes, plus apple and cranberry recipes in the fall
- Baking: scones, quick breads, and breakfast bakes
- For a crowd: side dishes and salads and party appetizers
How I Write a Recipe
Each recipe starts with a short introduction that explains the method, the reason behind a step, or the spot where things can go wrong. Then comes the recipe card: the ingredient list, numbered steps in the order you actually do them, and notes for swaps or make-ahead tips when there is something useful to say. I keep the ingredients simple and the steps plain.
What I Like to Cook
- On weeknights I lean toward one-pan and one-pot dinners, mostly because I would rather not wash a sink full of dishes.
- Given the choice, I will bake a pan of bars before a layered cake.
- Once fall comes around, apples and cranberries end up in more of my baking than I planned.
Mission
My goal is simple: recipes that make sense on the first read, so you can get dinner or dessert on the table without guessing what comes next.
