  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 large ripe banana, frozen or fresh
  • 1 scoop (about 30g) vanilla protein powder
  • 1 cup milk of choice (dairy, almond, or oat milk)
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 34 ice cubes (optional, for extra thickness)

Instructions

  1. Add the milk, Greek yogurt, and protein powder to a blender first so the powder blends smoothly without clumping.
  2. Add the frozen strawberries, banana, vanilla extract, and honey if using.
  3. Blend on high for 45-60 seconds, stopping to scrape down the sides if needed, until completely smooth and creamy.
  4. Add ice cubes if you prefer a thicker, colder texture and blend again for 15-20 seconds.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness, adding a touch more honey if desired.
  6. Pour into a tall glass and serve immediately.

Notes

For an extra-thick, milkshake-style smoothie, freeze your banana slices and strawberries ahead of time and skip the ice cubes. Store leftovers in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours; shake well before drinking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this strawberry banana protein smoothie ahead of time?

Yes, blend it the night before and store it in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Shake or stir well before drinking since it may separate slightly.

What's the best protein powder to use?

Vanilla or unflavored whey, casein, or a plant-based blend all work well in this strawberry banana protein smoothie, with vanilla whey pairing especially nicely with the fruit.

Can I make it without a banana?

Yes, swap the banana for half an avocado or extra frozen strawberries for a similar creamy texture, though the flavor and sweetness will change slightly.

How can I make this smoothie lower in sugar?

Skip the honey, use unsweetened almond milk, and choose an unflavored or low-sugar protein powder so the fruit remains the only source of sweetness.
