- 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups grated Gruyère cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon butter, for greasing
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter and set aside.
- Arrange half of the potato slices at the bottom of the dish and season with salt, pepper, and thyme.
- In a saucepan, combine cream, milk, and garlic; heat gently until warm.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half of the Gruyère cheese.
- Layer the remaining potato slices and cover with the rest of the cream mixture and cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving for best texture.
