Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pre-baked pie crust
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, cocoa powder, and flour. Stir in the milk until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and cook for an additional 2 minutes, continuing to stir.
  5. Remove from heat and gradually whisk a small amount of the hot mixture into the egg yolks. Return egg mixture to the saucepan and bring to a gentle boil.
  6. Cook and stir for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla, stirring until the butter melts.
  7. Pour the filling into the pre-baked pie crust.
  8. Bake for 10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.
