Turkey Chili

A hearty and flavorful turkey chili recipe, perfect for a cold winter’s day.

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 medium bell peppers, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (16 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, diced onions, tortilla chips

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Add the ground turkey and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  5. Add the chopped bell peppers and cook until they start to soften.
  6. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, oregano, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 1 minute.
  7. Add the diced tomatoes, beans, and chicken broth. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 30 minutes.
  9. Serve hot with desired toppings.
