For the Crust:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp mustard
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices Texas toast
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, toast the Texas toast according to package instructions or until golden brown.
- Spread butter on the toasted Texas toast slices.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously over the buttered Texas toast and serve immediately.
