Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

A hearty twist on the classic sloppy joe, served on thick, buttery Texas toast for extra flavor and crunch.

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices Texas toast
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, toast the Texas toast according to package instructions or until golden brown.
  5. Spread butter on the toasted Texas toast slices.
  6. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously over the buttered Texas toast and serve immediately.
