For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (for topping)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in diced apples, then pour batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the top.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool before serving.
