A comforting and indulgent dish combining crispy sour cream and onion chips with golden hash browns, all smothered in a rich cheesy French onion cream sauce.

For the Crust:
- 1 bag (8 oz) sour cream and onion potato chips
- 2 cups frozen diced hash browns, thawed
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp paprika
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté diced onion until translucent (about 5 minutes). Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add hash browns to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes until lightly browned. Remove from heat.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the heavy cream. Gradually whisk in Gruyere and mozzarella cheeses until melted and smooth. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Layer half the potato chips in the prepared baking dish. Top with the hash brown mixture, then pour the cheese sauce evenly over everything.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until bubbly. Top with remaining chips and bake for 5 more minutes until chips are lightly golden.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
