Description

Light and fluffy fried pastries dusted with cinnamon sugar, perfect for dessert or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add warm water, stirring until a soft dough forms. Knead lightly on a floured surface for 2 minutes.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  5. Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into squares or triangles.
  6. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 375°F (190°C). Fry dough pieces in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  7. Drain on paper towels and immediately toss in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon while still warm.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
