Slow Cooker Cinnamon Apples

A comforting slow cooker recipe where sweet, crisp apples are cooked down with brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and butter to create a tender, sweet spiced apple mixture with a silky sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds sweet crisp apples (about 6) such as Fuji, Honeycrisp, Gala, Pink Lady or Granny Smith
  • ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Peel the apples and cut into even slices. Add to a 6-quart slow cooker with the brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, salt, vanilla bean paste (or extract), cornstarch and 1 tablespoon butter. Stir to combine.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours, or high for 2 hours, until apples are tender but not mushy. Uncover and stir every 2 hours on low or every hour on high to check for doneness and prevent burning.
  3. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon butter and stir to combine. Serve warm, at room temperature, or chilled.

Notes

This recipe stores well for 3-4 days in the refrigerator or can be frozen for up to 3 months. Stirring periodically during cooking prevents burning. For a thicker sauce, add an extra tablespoon of cornstarch during cooking.[1]
