Raw Papaya Fry

A quick and crispy stir-fry made from raw papaya coated with spices and besan, perfect as a side dish or snack.

Ingredients

  • Raw papaya – 1 medium (peeled and cut into thin pieces)
  • Besan (gram flour) – 1 tbsp
  • Chili powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Water – enough to coat the papaya pieces
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Whole dry red chili – 1
  • Curry leaves – a few

Instructions

  1. Peel the raw papaya and cut it into thin pieces.
  2. Wash the papaya pieces thoroughly and cook in boiling water for 5 minutes.
  3. Drain the water completely and transfer the papaya pieces to a bowl.
  4. Add besan, chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt to the papaya pieces.
  5. Sprinkle a little water and mix well to coat all pieces evenly.
  6. Heat oil in a pan on medium flame. Add the whole dry red chili and curry leaves, fry for a few seconds.
  7. Add the coated papaya pieces and stir-fry, stirring occasionally.
  8. Cook until the papaya pieces turn golden and crisp.
  9. Remove from heat and serve hot.

Notes

Ensure papaya pieces are thinly sliced for even cooking and crispiness. Adjust chili powder for spice preference. Using besan helps achieve a crispy texture.
