Pizza Grilled Cheese

A delicious fusion of classic grilled cheese and pizza, featuring mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, and pizza sauce between buttered bread slices with a crispy, golden exterior.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices bread (sourdough or white bread)
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup pepperoni slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet to medium-high heat.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning until evenly combined.
  3. Spread the butter mixture on one side of each bread slice.
  4. On the inside of the bread, top with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni.
  5. Close the sandwich with another slice of bread, butter side out.
  6. Place the sandwich in the heated skillet and cook for 5-8 minutes per side until golden and cheese is melted.
  7. Remove from skillet and serve warm with additional pizza sauce for dipping if desired.

Notes

Cook over medium to medium-low heat so the cheese has time to melt properly. For extra flavor, microwave pepperoni for 20 seconds and dab off excess grease before adding. Optional: create a crispy pepperoni crust by cooking 3-6 pepperoni slices in the pan first, then placing the sandwich on top.
