Ooey Gooey Bars

A rich and creamy dessert bar made with a yellow cake mix crust and a sweet cream cheese topping, perfect for fall snacking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 yellow cake mix
  • 1 egg (for crust)
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) melted butter (for crust)
  • 1 block (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 eggs (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, melted (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, 1 egg, and 1 stick melted butter. Mix well and press evenly into the bottom of a 13×9-inch baking pan to form the crust.
  3. In another bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, 3 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 stick melted butter until smooth and creamy.
  4. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the crust in the pan.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is set and lightly golden.
  6. Allow bars to cool completely before cutting into squares. For best results, chill before serving to let the filling set.

Notes

This recipe uses a yellow cake mix as a shortcut for the crust, making it quick and easy to prepare. For extra flavor, consider adding chocolate chips or nuts to the cream cheese topping. Bars are best served chilled to enhance the ooey gooey texture.
