Mint Chocolate Chip Snowball Cookies

Soft, buttery snowball cookies infused with refreshing mint flavor and studded with chocolate chips, coated in powdered sugar for a festive touch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon mint extract or peppermint extract
  • green gel food coloring (optional)
  • 3/4 cup mini chocolate chips
  • additional powdered sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and powdered sugar together until creamy.
  3. Add the flour, salt, and mint extract, mixing just until combined.
  4. If using, add green food coloring to desired shade and mix well.
  5. Stir in mini chocolate chips.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls.
  8. Place balls on a lined baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 7 to 8 minutes, until the bottoms are very lightly browned but cookies remain pale on top.
  10. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  11. Roll warm cookies in powdered sugar to coat, then cool completely and roll again in powdered sugar for full snowball effect.

Notes

For best results, use gel food coloring to prevent too much liquid in the dough. Chill dough before baking to maintain shape. Ensure cookies are only lightly browned to keep them tender.
