Scale
  • 1 package (25 oz) frozen cheese ravioli
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara or spaghetti sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook ravioli according to package directions until al dente; drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, brown ground beef with chopped onion and minced garlic over medium heat until meat is cooked through and onions are translucent. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add marinara sauce to the meat mixture, stir well, and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, half of the mozzarella cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix until smooth.
  6. Add cooked ravioli to the cheese mixture and gently fold to coat evenly.
  7. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spread half of the meat sauce on the bottom.
  8. Layer the ravioli and cheese mixture over the meat sauce.
  9. Top with the remaining meat sauce, then sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
  10. Mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle evenly over the top.
  11. Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.
  12. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a blend of Italian cheeses and add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the meat sauce. This casserole can be prepared a day ahead and baked just before serving for convenience.
