Homemade Pumpkin Butter

Sweet, spiced, and perfect on toast, pancakes, or straight from the spoon, this homemade pumpkin butter spreads the flavors of fall on everything.

Ingredients

  • 1 (15 ounce) can 100% pure pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine pumpkin puree, applesauce, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens and darkens in color, about 20-30 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Allow to cool before transferring to a jar or container.
  5. Store in the refrigerator and use within 2 weeks.

Notes

This pumpkin butter is thick and creamy with warm autumn spices. It’s excellent on toast, pancakes, or as a baking ingredient. Adjust spices to taste for a milder or stronger flavor.
