Hamburger Potato Casserole

A hearty and comforting casserole combining ground beef, potatoes, and cheese in a creamy sauce, perfect for a family dinner.

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 cups frozen hash brown potatoes
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is tender; drain excess fat.
  3. In a large bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add cooked beef mixture, frozen hash browns, and 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese to the bowl; mix well.
  5. Transfer mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  6. Sprinkle remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese over the top.
  7. Drizzle melted butter over the cheese layer.
  8. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes or until casserole is bubbly and cheese is melted and golden.
  9. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a creamier texture, you can add a splash of milk to the soup mixture. Feel free to substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of chicken or celery soup for a different flavor. Adding chopped green peppers or mushrooms can enhance the vegetable content.
