Glazed Pearl Onions

Tender pearl onions simmered in a sweet and tangy balsamic glaze, finished with butter for a rich, flavorful side dish perfect for holiday dinners or any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 10-ounce bags pearl onions, trimmed and peeled
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, combine pearl onions, white wine, olive oil, water, salt, and pepper.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer and cook until onions are tender and most of the liquid has evaporated, about 30-40 minutes.
  3. Add balsamic vinegar and butter to the skillet.
  4. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the onions are well glazed, about 5-10 minutes.
  5. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed and serve warm.

Notes

Using peeled pearl onions saves time; if using fresh, blanch and peel before cooking. The glaze can be adjusted for sweetness or tang by varying the balsamic vinegar amount. This dish pairs well with roasted meats or as a flavorful side for holiday meals.
