French Onion Pork Chops

  • Author: Dorothy Miler

Description

Juicy pork chops smothered in caramelized onions and melted cheese, inspired by the flavors of French onion soup.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 4 bone-in pork chops (1 inch thick)
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Season pork chops with salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat and sear chops for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, melt butter and add onions. Cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized. Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and beef broth, scraping up browned bits.
  3. Return pork chops to skillet, nestling them into the onions. Top with shredded cheese. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes until cheese melts and pork reaches 145°F internal temperature.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
