Easy Swedish Meatballs

  • Author: Dorothy Miler

Description

A simple and delicious recipe for classic Swedish meatballs with a creamy gravy.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, egg, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and allspice until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook meatballs in batches until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, whisk in flour to make a roux. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly until smooth.
  5. Stir in heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Return meatballs to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes until the gravy thickens.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
