Dolly’s Chicken and Stuffing Casserole

A comforting casserole combining shredded chicken, creamy soup, and a buttery stuffing topping, baked to golden perfection with a crispy crust and creamy interior.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups cooked, shredded chicken (about 3 large breasts)
  • 1 box (6 oz) stuffing mix (e.g., Stove Top)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup chicken broth (may vary)
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine shredded chicken, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until creamy and smooth.
  3. Spread the chicken mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a medium bowl, mix the stuffing mix with melted butter until evenly coated. Gradually stir in chicken broth until the stuffing is moist but not soggy.
  5. Spread the stuffing mixture evenly over the chicken layer, covering completely without pressing down too firmly.
  6. If using, sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the stuffing layer.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy and edges are bubbly.
  8. Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving to allow it to set.

Notes

You can adjust the amount of chicken broth to achieve your preferred stuffing moisture. Adding cheese on top is optional but adds extra flavor and richness. Letting the casserole rest after baking is important to make serving easier and keep layers intact.
