Creamed Peas

Description

A simple, comforting side dish of tender peas in a rich, creamy sauce with a hint of onion.

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  2. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
  3. Bring to a simmer, stirring frequently, until sauce thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add frozen peas, salt, pepper, and sugar. Cook for 5-7 minutes until peas are tender and heated through.
  5. Adjust seasoning if needed and serve warm.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
