Chinese Beef and Onion Stir Fry

A quick and flavorful stir fry featuring tender beef slices and caramelized onions in a savory sauce.

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a bowl, mix the sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Let marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a wok or large pan over high heat. Add the onions and stir-fry until softened and slightly caramelized, about 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add remaining oil to the pan. Stir-fry the marinated beef for 2-3 minutes until browned but still slightly pink.
  4. Return the onions to the pan. Mix cornstarch with water and pour into the pan, stirring until the sauce thickens.
  5. Serve hot over steamed rice.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
