Ingredients
Scale
4 large russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and black pepper to taste
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
Layer half of the potato slices in the prepared baking dish. Pour half of the sauce over potatoes and sprinkle with half of the cheddar and Parmesan cheeses. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, sauce, and cheeses.
Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender and top is golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
