Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 6 hamburger buns, toasted

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground chicken and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, oregano, and cayenne (if using). Cook for 1 minute to toast the spices.
  4. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.
  5. Serve the Cajun chicken mixture on toasted hamburger buns.

Notes

For extra heat, increase the cayenne pepper or add a dash of hot sauce. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
