Shrimp Casserole

A creamy and cheesy shrimp casserole with a buttery, crispy panko breadcrumb topping, perfect for a cozy family meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs large shrimp, 21-24 count, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 tbsp salt (for cooking water)
  • 2/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp butter, plus more to grease the pan
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 4 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 oz shredded medium cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and season with 1 tbsp salt. Add shrimp and Old Bay Seasoning; cook until shrimp are just opaque, about 1-2 minutes. Drain shrimp and let cool for 10 minutes, then pat dry.
  2. Mix mayonnaise, garlic powder, and black pepper into the shrimp until coated. Stir in mozzarella and cheddar cheeses.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a casserole dish with butter.
  4. Transfer shrimp mixture evenly into the prepared casserole dish.
  5. In a small bowl, melt 1 tbsp butter and stir in panko bread crumbs until evenly moistened. Sprinkle the buttered crumbs evenly over the shrimp mixture.
  6. Bake in preheated oven at 375°F for about 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown on top, and shrimp reach internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).

Notes

Do not overcook the shrimp in the boiling step to avoid toughness. Mixing the cheeses into the shrimp coating adds creamy texture and flavor. Use fresh Old Bay seasoning for the best flavor.
