Best Shrimp Casserole

A flavorful shrimp casserole featuring large shrimp coated in mayonnaise, garlic powder, and black pepper, topped with a blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, and finished with a buttery panko breadcrumb crust for a perfect crispy topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs large shrimp, 21-24 count, peeled and deveined
  • 1 Tbsp Old Bay Seasoning, plus 1 Tbsp salt for cooking water
  • 2/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp butter, plus more for greasing the pan
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 4 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 oz shredded medium cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a casserole dish with butter.
  2. Bring a pot of salted water (with 1 Tbsp salt and Old Bay seasoning) to a boil. Add shrimp and cook until just opaque, about 2-3 minutes. Drain and let cool.
  3. Pat the shrimp dry and transfer to a large bowl.
  4. Add mayonnaise, garlic powder, and ground black pepper to shrimp and stir to coat evenly.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses into the shrimp mixture, stirring to combine.
  6. Pour the shrimp mixture evenly into the prepared casserole dish.
  7. In a separate bowl, melt 1 Tbsp butter and mix with the panko breadcrumbs until well moistened.
  8. Sprinkle the buttery breadcrumbs over the top of the casserole.
  9. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
  10. Let rest a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, you can substitute half the mayonnaise with sour cream or Greek yogurt. Use freshly grated cheeses for better melting and flavor. Serve with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh green salad to complete the meal.
