Berry Tiramisu Trifle

A no-bake layered dessert featuring ladyfingers soaked in a homemade berry sauce, alternated with berry mascarpone cream and plain mascarpone whipped cream, chilled and garnished with fresh berries and basil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz lady fingers
  • 1/2 lb blueberries
  • 1 lb blackberries
  • 1 lb mascarpone cheese
  • 4 organic free-range egg yolks
  • 5 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp honey + more to taste
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp water
  • Fresh basil leaves and lilac flowers for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine blackberries, blueberries, lemon juice, vanilla extract, honey, and 2 tbsp water. Simmer on low heat until blueberries pop, then cool and strain to separate sauce from solids.
  2. Whip heavy cream with 1 tbsp sugar to stiff peaks and refrigerate. In another bowl, whisk egg yolks with remaining sugar, then gradually add mascarpone until smooth. Fold in whipped cream and divide into two portions; fold berry solids into one portion.
  3. Dip ladyfingers briefly in berry sauce and layer in glasses or trifle dish with alternating layers of berry mascarpone and plain mascarpone mixtures. Repeat layers until ingredients are used.
  4. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until set. Garnish with fresh blackberries, basil leaves, and lilac flowers before serving.

Notes

Use organic free-range eggs for best flavor and safety in no-cook preparation. Adjust honey to taste based on berry sweetness. For individual servings, use 4 medium glasses; for a crowd, assemble in one large trifle dish.
