For the Crust:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 12 oz pasta (such as penne or rigatoni)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Heat a large pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess fat.
- Add the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the pot. Cook for 5-7 minutes until vegetables are softened.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let it cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Combine the cooked pasta with the beef ragu sauce. Toss well to coat.
- Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
