Baked Apple Fritters

These baked apple fritters are a delicious, less-greasy alternative to the classic fried version. Made with fresh apples, warm spices, and a simple vanilla glaze, they are perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp allspice
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp cold butter, cut into pieces
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Honeycrisp apple, peeled and finely diced
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  5. Add the milk mixture to the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
  6. Gently stir in the diced apple.
  7. Drop ¼ cup portions of batter onto a lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. While fritters bake, prepare the glaze: whisk together powdered sugar, milk or cream, and vanilla extract.
  10. Drizzle glaze over cooled fritters before serving.

Notes

For best results, use cold butter and do not overmix the batter. These fritters are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. You can substitute any firm apple variety for Honeycrisp.
