Bacon Cheeseburger Lasagna

A hearty, layered lasagna combining the classic flavors of a bacon cheeseburger with lasagna noodles, ricotta cheese, tomato sauce, and a blend of Swiss, Cheddar, and bacon for a rich, comforting casserole.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef (at least 80%)
  • 2 medium onions, chopped (1 cup)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 (28 ounce) can chunky tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese (4 oz)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled (1/2 cup)
  • 12 uncooked lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (8 oz)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and spray a 13×9-inch glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a large 12-inch skillet, cook ground beef, onions, salt, and pepper over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is browned; drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce and water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
  4. In a medium bowl, beat the egg, then stir in ricotta cheese, shredded Swiss cheese, chopped parsley, and 1/4 cup of the crumbled bacon.
  5. Spread about 1 cup of the beef mixture in the bottom of the baking dish. Top with 4 uncooked lasagna noodles.
  6. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then 2 cups of the beef mixture, followed by 3/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese.
  7. Repeat the layering with 4 noodles, remaining ricotta mixture, 2 cups beef mixture, and 3/4 cup Cheddar cheese.
  8. Top with remaining 4 noodles, beef mixture, remaining Cheddar cheese, and the rest of the bacon.
  9. Cover with foil sprayed with cooking spray on the underside. Refrigerate at least 2 hours and up to 24 hours before baking.
  10. Bake covered for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 30 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
  11. Let stand covered for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.

Notes

1. Refrigerating before baking enhances the flavors and helps the layers set. 2. Cook the bacon until very crisp for the best texture contrast. 3. You can substitute regular tomato sauce if chunky tomato sauce is unavailable.
