Apple, Sage and Sausage Stuffing

A flavorful stuffing combining toasted bread crumbs, savory sausage, fresh apples, celery, onions, and aromatic sage, baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups toasted bread crumbs or stuffing mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 medium Piñata® apples, diced
  • 1 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black peppercorns
  • 2 cups diced celery ribs with leaves
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh sage
  • 2 cups ground sausage meat
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 Spanish onion, diced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Drizzle the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and brown the sausage meat. Once cooked, remove from the heat and spoon into a large mixing bowl.
  2. In the same skillet, drizzle the remaining olive oil and sauté the apples, celery, and onions until tender, about 10 minutes.
  3. Add the cooked apple mixture to the bowl with the sausage. Slowly fold in the stuffing mix while adding the warm chicken stock, sage, salt, and pepper.
  4. Fold until fully blended and the bread is moist but not soggy; allow it to rest while the oven preheats to 375°F.
  5. Transfer the stuffing to a baking dish and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

This stuffing pairs the sweetness of apples with savory sausage and aromatic sage for a balanced flavor. Use Piñata® apples or similar firm apples to maintain texture. For best results, toast the bread crumbs beforehand to avoid sogginess.
