For the Crust:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let stand for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in buttermilk and yeast mixture until just combined.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly for about 1 minute.
- Roll out dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.
- Place biscuits on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
